The Tamer Center for Social Enterprise

1/6

SESF

I recently completed the 2023 Social Enterprise Summer Fellowship (SESF) through the generous support of Tamer Center for Social Enterprise at Columbia University - Columbia's Business School.

Through the "SESF Grant", the University provides financial support for students to engage in opportunities that contribute to advancing more socially just educational spaces.

About OUR GRANT

Our Summer Work With The New Community Project

Education & Policy Reform in Action......

I am back in NYC and continuing my passion for teaching advocacy related topics via artistic practices. 🌱

This summer, I applied to a grant a part of @columbiaUniversity's Business School (The Tamer Center for Social Enterprise) @columbiasocent which offers a unique and exciting opportunity for students to work with a social venture capital firm with a clearly defined social or environmental mission.

I am grateful to share that I will be working with @iamchidi within his non-profit organization, the @newcommproject. Together, we will reimagine public high schools in New York City with a mission to create out-of-school academic programs that center the lived experiences of minoritized learners.

My Colorful Nana took me down this path, and I'm excited to continue falling further into it ❤. Forever appreciative of @iamchidi’s belief in the work we do as individuals re-imagining and celebrating self-expression through the lens of Black hair. 🙏🏾

MCN's episodes, dialogues, poetry pieces, etc. have consistently connected to broader topics like public policy and innovative educational practices, etc... However, in a few weeks, I will get the opportunity to truly put this knowledge into practice while learning from high school juniors (ages 16-17) who are interested in investing in their local communities and fostering a stronger sense of self. I am beyond excited to be a part of their journey as a hopeful mentor & teacher. 📚✨
